Where You’ll Meet

Museum at Eldridge Street Museum at Eldridge Street

Museum at Eldridge Street’s stunning facade—a blend of Moorish, Gothic, and Romanesque architecture—is just as impressive as its history. The National Historic Landmark, built in 1887, provides a glimpse into the past, putting visitors in the footsteps of the synagogue’s founders. Its authentic portrayal of the immigrant experience helped the venue land on Time Out New York’s list of NYC’s coolest museums while its stunning design led the New York Times to call it “gasp-inducing.”

Bryan Adams: The Get Up! Tour

  • What’s kept the Canadian rocker on the charts for three decades: arena anthems and vocal cords designed to produce pure emotion
  • What made him Canada’s best-known ambassador: a string of records (including Cuts Like a Knife and the seminal Reckless) that sold more than 65 million albums across the world, sent Bryan touring across six continents, and landed #1 singles in over 40 countries
  • Bryan’s distinguished North American achievements: At home, he was awarded the Order of Canada, inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame, and honored with a star on Canada’s Walk of Fame. In the U.S., he’s been nominated for three Academy Awards and five Golden Globes, won a Grammy, and earned a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
  • Get Up!: Bryan’s brand-new record, featuring new tracks co-written by longtime partner Jim Vallance and popping production from studio wizard and ELO frontman Jeff Lynne

Harlem Globetrotters

Harlem Globetrotters Playing Three-on-Five

Since forming in the 1920s, the Harlem Globetrotters have continued to entertain millions of parents, children, and general basketball admirers with a trademark blend of athletic precision and razzle-dazzle showmanship. For the team's 2014 tour, a rotating roster of Globetrotter favorites—including three female players—takes to the hardwood each game. Spectators might spot veteran guard TNT sharing a behind-the-back pass with dunker Quake, whose high jump once cleared 7 feet, cruelly dashing his dreams of working in a ceiling-fan store. The Globetrotters might also present a study in contrasts with 5-foot-2 Too Tall and 7-foot-4 Stretch, the team’s tallest member.

During each Globetrotters game, youngsters laugh along and witness the jovial jocks performing classic routines of unconventional passing and sudden transmutations of water into confetti. To infuse their visits with an extra shot of unpredictability, the Globetrotters also let fans in each city vote on special rules for every game; past rules have included the use of a four-point shot and the installation of a penalty box. Over the years, similar antics have followed the Globetrotters around the world, including to 122 countries and territories and all six continents on which basketballs grow naturally. The Globetrotters’ extensive travels haven’t gone unnoticed: they’re one of the few teams to earn a spot in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame as ambassadors of the sport.

$32 for a Comedy Show by Ralphie May for Two at the DeYor Performing Arts Center on June 19 (Up to $65 Value)
$32 for a Comedy Show by Ralphie May for Two at the DeYor Performing Arts Center on June 19 (Up to $65 Value)

Although not one of the five traditional senses, a sense of humor is the only thing that allows humans to answer knock-knocks at the door. You’re there with this GrouponLive deal to see comedian Ralphie May perform at Powers Auditorium in the DeYor Performing Arts Center. For $32, you get two tickets for reserved seating in the main floor or upper balcony on Tuesday, June 19, at 7:30 p.m. (up to a $65 value, including fees).

From the moment Ralphie May walks onto the stage, he demands attention with his 400-pound frame and incongruously high-pitched voice, juxtaposing quick barbs against lengthy pauses to wittily lance society's absurdities. His Southern drawl and babyish looks won him second place in NBC's Last Comic Standing and launched him into the comedy stratosphere, where he starred in several Comedy Central specials and DVDs, including Prime Cut, in which he pokes fun at the adorably awful hairstyles that are popular in his native Dixie. This past March, during his Too Big to Ignore special, Ralphie mused on the unforeseen perks of resembling a famous transgender celebrity.

The celebrated laugh-magnet brings his larger than life persona to the DeYor Performing Arts Center's Powers Auditorium, which was built in 1931 and still retains much of its original Moorish decor charm, including its ushers on flying carpets who shush guests talking on their phones. Before the show, eyes wander throughout the venue, admiring ornamental chandeliers that glow soft light onto gold, crimson, and lime detailing that crawls around the theater.

The Scouting Report

Eastern Michigan’s men’s basketball team started this season 7-0, and they’ve shown little sign of slowing down—especially at home, where they won 13 of their first 14 games. Senior forward Karrington Ward has helped establish the Eagles as one of the top rebounding teams in the nation, which certainly came in handy on February 10. That night, Ward snagged 10 boards from opposing players and over-eager ball boys, adding five three-pointers to lead the Eagles to an 83-69 victory over Miami (OH).

The women’s team has been tough to beat at the EMU Convocation Center, too. Home-court advantage will be especially important in an upcoming match-up against the Western Michigan Broncos, whose stifling defense has them at the top of the Mid-American Conference.

The Art of the Brick

Nathan Sawaya has a LEGO collection that would make any kid jealous. But the sculptures he creates from thousands of the bricks are anything but juvenile—rather they are, as the New York Times puts it, "playful and strangely contemporary." Sawaya's humanoid sculptures, for instance, take on strange postures, swimming facedown through plasticky puddles or tearing at their chests, spilling pieces onto their display tables. Recreations of paintings such as the Mona Lisa and Girl With a Pearl Earring pay low-resolution homage to their sources, and a construction of The Thinker re-imagines Rodin's sculptural masterwork.

The Scouting Report

On the last weekend in September, the Mets looks to close out their 2013 season with a home stand against the Milwaukee Brewers. Special festivities set Citi Field abuzz throughout the series, including a Mets key chain giveaway presented by Jeep on September 28. On September 29, before the final game is played and the grounds crew deflates the pitcher’s mound for the winter, the Mets will honor legendary catcher Mike Piazza with an induction into the organization’s Hall of Fame. Every fan in attendance for that game will also receive a Mike Piazza T-shirt to help celebrate the occasion.

One Ticket to See Guns N’ Roses at the Covelli Centre on December 7 at 8 p.m. Two Options Available.

The most beloved rock stars manage to seem both iconic and down-to-earth, like a trucker hat placed atop a presidential bust. Revel among the masses with today’s GrouponLive deal to see Guns N’ Roses at the Covelli Centre on Wednesday, December 7, at 8 p.m. Doors open at 7 p.m. Choose between the following options:

  • For $25, you get one ticket for reserved seating in sections 220–222 (up to a $54.10 value, including all ticketing fees).
  • For $33, you get one ticket for reserved seating in section 202 or 218 (up to a $68.90 value, including all ticketing fees).

After five years away from American stages, the immutable hard-rock juggernaut Guns N’ Roses reuses its illusions to whip crowds into a frenzy during a notoriously raucous live show. Enigmatic siren Axl Rose, beloved for his punk-rock stance against prolificacy, leads his wrecking crew of Roses through a two-hour tour of greatest hits culled from the band’s groundbreaking debut album, Appetite for Destruction, the long-awaited Chinese Democracy, and everything in between. The group soars and shines throughout a marathon performance, ranging from turbo-charged rockers such as “Welcome to the Jungle” and “Sweet Child O’ Mine” through ballads such as “November Rain.” With hatless new axeman Dj Ashba stepping into the shoes of Slash, and The Replacements’ Tommy Stinson replacing Duff McKagan, Guns N’ Roses is recharged and ready to quench destructive appetites with pure organic rock wrung from handpicked bandanas.

Starting the show like a chainsaw pull cord, legendary ax-grinder and former Ozzy mercenary Zakk Wylde leads his Black Label Society through a parade of questionable lullabies and ballads for lovesick demons.

In her one-hour workshop, Umi Patel demystifies this process in order to expand the base of chai fans.

By sharing videos and her own personal experiences, Umi shines a light on the origins of the chai tradition and explains the importance it has in many households.

  • Brew the Chai
Umi guides the tea’s traditional preparation, mixing black tea leaves with green cardamom pods, cinnamon sticks, ground ginger, and peppercorn.

“I bleed masala chai,” says Umi Patel. Raised in England by Indian parents, she finds the potion serves as a daily source of both deliciousness and nostalgia—not to mention caffeine. While her life and career have taken her to New York City, Umi still cherishes the chai recipe she learned from her parents and tea makers in India, and gets as much joy from sharing it with others as she does from drinking it.

The Scouting Report

On Friday, July 31, the Mets kicked off a crucial three-game series against the first-place Washington Nationals at Citi Field—and promptly swept them to move into a tie atop the N.L. East. Behind arguably the best pitching staff in baseball, the Mets have surged into playoff contention while sporting one of the lowest ERAs in the league. To complement their stable of arms, the Mets added some offensive firepower at the trade deadline by acquiring outfielder Yoenis Cespedes from the Detroit Tigers, a move that’s only helped create more buzz around the team. In the coming weeks, fans can catch the red-hot Mets during their playoff quest as they take on the Rockies, Pirates, and Phillies amid various ballpark promotions, including a T-shirt giveaway on August 14 and a Travis d’Arnaud magnetic card giveaway on August 16.

EMU Women's Basketball Games at EMU Convocation Center on November 15 and December 11 (Up to 68% Off)

Going to a basketball game lets fans feel the excitement and hear the pleas for quiet from the family living underneath the bleachers. Root for the home team with this GrouponLive deal to see the Eastern Michigan University Eagles Women's Basketball team play the following two games at the EMU Convocation Center in Ypsilanti:

  • Against the Michigan State Spartans on Thursday, November 15, at 7 p.m.
  • Against the University of Michigan Wolverines on Tuesday, December 11, at 7 p.m.

Doors open at 6 p.m. for both games. Choose between two ticket options:

  • For $15, you get two general-admission tickets to both games (a $39.50 value).
  • For $19, you get two general-admission tickets to both games, plus two team posters and a 30-minute autograph session immediately after both games (a $59.50 value).

On the heels of a 23–9 campaign last season that culminated in an NCAA Tournament berth, the Eastern Michigan University Eagles women’s basketball team looks to stake their claim as the class of Michigan hoops in two early-season tilts against in-state rivals. The Eagles soar above the hardwood on the strength of veteran play from junior guard-forward Natachia Watkins, the top returning scorer and dance-off victor from last season, and her teammate Olivia Fouty, a forward who led the team in rebounds last year.

The November showdown against the Spartans carries added significance as the Eagles attempt to avenge a heartbreaking, one-point overtime loss in East Lansing last year. A victory over the Spartans would give them a chance to sweep two of the state’s high-profile programs in their subsequent clash with the Wolverines, who they dispatched 77–64 last season on the strength of a double-double from Fouty, who garnered a game-high 12 rebounds without the use of a stepladder.

Harlem Globetrotters

**Harlem Globetrotters Playing Three-on-Five**

Since forming in the 1920s, the Harlem Globetrotters have continued to entertain millions of parents, children, and general basketball admirers with a trademark blend of athletic precision and razzle-dazzle showmanship. For the team’s 2015 tour, a rotating roster of Globetrotter favorites—including three female players—takes to the hardwood each game. Spectators might spot veteran guard TNT sharing a behind-the-back pass with dunker Thunder, who also holds the world record for longest basketball shot at 109 feet and 9 inches. The Globetrotters might also present a study in contrasts with 5-foot-2 Too Tall and 7-foot-4 Stretch, the team’s tallest member.

This season, the team faces off against its classic nemesis, the Washington Generals, whose head coach was also a member of the last Generals team to have beat the Globetrotters—more than 40 years ago. Each game gives the Globetrotters’ jovial jocks a chance to extend their decades-long dominance as youngsters laugh along and witness classic routines of unconventional passing and sudden transmutations of water into confetti.

The high-flying acrobats of Cirque du Soleil take over Radio City Music Hall for a gravity-defying extravaganza with Zarkana, now in its final year in New York. The show follows the tribulations of Zark, a magician who has simultaneously lost his powers and the love of his life, as he searches for both in a theater populated with eccentric characters and dazzling performers. A quartet of singing mutants tempts Zark off his path, treating audiences to striking tableaux such as a web-bound spider woman, a snake twisting atop a 30-foot body, and a tank-encased pickled lady whose stunted limbs and drooping eyes send shivers down spines and pangs of homesickness through vacationing picklers. Cirque du Soleil's trademark acrobatics surround dramatic moments, with gravity-mocking athletes sticking one-handed landings on each other's heads, a sinuously flexible contortionist floating across the stage in a hand-balancing solo, and high-wire performers creating a vertiginous playground complete with jump ropes.

The art deco splendor of Radio City Music Hall melds with the show's sets to create an otherworldly atmosphere Time praised as a "perfect union of site and spectacle." Backdrops of oversize gears and coiling snakes rise to the top of the 60-foot proscenium arch while projections show off eerie sand paintings on the surrounding walls. Anthemic rock music by Australian electropop prodigy Nick Littlemore blasts through the pipes of the Mighty Wurlitzer, modified to twist ominously like a sinister American Bandstand dancer.

Carolina Mudcats Game for Two or Four at Five County Stadium (Up to 75% Off)

Playing baseball takes coordination, upper-body strength, and the courage to run counterclockwise even though that direction is normally only for the immoral and weak-hearted. See strong-willed Americans with this GrouponLive deal to see the Carolina Mudcats play at Five County Stadium.

Choose Between Two Options

This deal is valid for any Sunday–Thursday home game on the Mudcats' schedule through June 13, except on Memorial Day.

The Scouting Report

The Carolina Mudcats enter their sophomore season in the Carolina League ready to capitalize on the momentum of their 2012 run, which earned seven current and former Mudcats the honor of a trip to the selective Arizona Fall League. The Mudcats begin their campaign on April 5, when they take on the Winston-Salem Dash, last year's Mills Cup championship runner-up.

Carolina Mudcats

Though the same catfish logo still peeks out from a red "C," its barbels draping over the side, the Carolina Mudcats are part of a new era of minor-league baseball in North Carolina. Two years after the original franchise left for Pensacola, Florida, in 2010, a new team arrived in Zebulon to don the signature red jerseys. As the new Mudcats spawned, so too did new affiliations—the team is now the Class A-Advanced affiliate of the MLB's Cleveland Indians, and mascot Muddy the Mudcat now trolls the stands of Five County Stadium, where a 300-square-foot videoboard broadcasts instant replays of the outfielders' most breathtaking stretches.

  • $30 for one admission to Occupy: The Tour with Michael Pellagatti
  • This event is for adults only
  • Participants should wear comfortable walking shoes
  • Upon purchase, you may schedule for one of the available dates
  • You must reserve your date here in advance of the event

The tour starts at the National Museum of the American Indian in Lower Manhattan.

Each event is capped at 30 purchasers.

What You’ll Do

In autumn of 2011, thousands of activists descended upon lower Manhattan, frustrated by income inequality and the power wielded by banks and corporations. What would become Occupy Wall Street quickly snowballed, inspiring political fervor across the country and the world. On this three-hour tour, original Occupier Michael Pellagatti takes participants to some of the movement’s most important sites, sharing his personal story against the backdrop of recent—and not-so-recent—American history.

  • The First Walk
Retrace the steps of Occupy’s inaugural walk, heading north on Broadway from the museum to Zuccotti Park while Michael recollects police-protestor tensions.

  • The Main Hub
At the protest’s geographical heart, where activists set up a sprawling encampment, Michael shares stories and photos, pointing out where activists set up work stations such as the library, the clinic, and the kitchen.

  • Wall Street and Beyond
Michael’s firsthand account continues at Wall Street’s Federal Hall, where he and his fellow activists lived outside while attempting to re-mount the movement in the spring of 2012. Then the group walks to the Brooklyn Bridge, where Michael and 780 others were arrested, before concluding in Foley Square, where 40,000 protesters challenged the NYPD’s breaking up of the encampment.

Radical Tour Guide

At its height, Occupy Wall Street counted tens of thousands of participants, and Michael Pellagatti was one of its pioneers. A member of the Occupy Media working group, Michael’s voice and image landed on the BBC, in The Guardian, and countless television screens across the country. As a self-termed radical tour guide, he fuses his political passion and personal experience with his knowledge of NYC, helping others appreciate recent history and find their inner activist.

Metaphors for laughter are often surprisingly violent, from "busting a gut" to "splitting sides" to "tumbling down Joke Mountain, which is made of cobras." Live dangerously with this GrouponLive deal to see Cinco con Cinco: A Comedy Revolution, featuring Joe Vega, Eric Nieves, J.J. Ramirez, Sara Contreras, and Kyle Grooms, at B.B. King Blues Club & Grill. For $17, you get one general-admission ticket on Saturday, May 5, at 7:30 p.m. (up to a $35 value, including all fees).

A quintet of celebrated New York standups convene to celebrate Mexican heritage and benefit leukemia research at Cinco con Cinco: A Comedy Revolution. Joe Vega, seen in the film The Latin Legends of Comedy, strolls onstage with a suave demeanor that sets up anecdotes on everything from his love of the ladies to his addiction to CNN's breaking-news ticker. J.J. Ramirez, who is also seen in the film, earns his nickname “The Latin Lunatic” and frequent appearances on The Howard Stern Show with energetic, backhanded shoutouts to assorted Latin American nationals.

Bronx comic Eric Nieves gives stereotypes a Bronx cheer with reality-based humor seen on Showtime at the Apollo and BET’s Comic View, while The Original Latin Divas of Comedy’s Sara Contreras breaks up the boys’ club with her seasoned routine. Kyle Grooms, seen in his own Comedy Central special and on NBC’s Last Comic Standing, serves up smart, sardonic observations from behind his bookish spectacles and demonstrates why he's been described as the offspring of Chris Rock and Dave Chappelle.

Harlem Globetrotters

This season, the Globetrotters will celebrate their 90th anniversary the only way they know how: with a jaw-dropping blend of athletic precision and razzle-dazzle showmanship that has entertained hundreds of millions of fans over the past nine decades. Throughout the team’s lengthy tour, a rotating roster of Globetrotter favorites—including a pair of female players—will take to the hardwood each game.

Each game gives the Globetrotters’ jovial jocks a chance to extend their decades-long dominance, all while new generations of fans laugh along and witness classic routines of unconventional passing and sudden transmutations of water into confetti.

$12 for Outing for Two to "The Annual: 2012" at the National Academy Museum (Up to $24 Value)

Art has been with us since the first caveman painted a bison on a wall and the first cave-surrealist painted a mustache on it. Hunt down some art with this GrouponLive deal to the The Annual: 2012 exhibition at the National Academy Museum. For $12, you get two tickets for entrance on any day through April 29 (up to a $24 value). The exhibit is open Wednesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. Children younger than 12, National Academy members, and students are admitted for free.

Drawn from the National Academy's members and the younger artists they've invited, the pieces at The Annual: 2012 plunge patrons into a wide cross section of work from established and emerging artists, including painting, sculpture, architecture, and video. Ellen Altfest's The Leg presents viewers with a nearly photorealistic vision of human anatomy, blurring the line between portraiture, still life, and takeout menus from tiger restaurants. Architectural studies by the likes of Jeanne Gang, Laurence Booth, and Rafael Viñoly draw out the experiential as well as the aesthetic aspects of their structures, and video installations by Joan Jonas, Carrie Mae Weems, and Kate Gilmore trace the medium's evolution through three generations and the casualty-ridden conflicts of the VHS versus Betamax wars. The exhibition takes place in the Academy's stately Beaux Arts mansion, creating an electric juxtaposition of gilded-age elegance and cutting-edge artwork.

Though the National Academy Museum offers discounts to students and seniors, this Groupon offers the best deal available for most customers.

Cancún: Cool White Sands and Mayan Relics

Located on a barrier island shaped like the number seven, Cancún’s Hotel Zone juts into the Caribbean Sea at the northeast tip of Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula. With the sea on one side and freshwater lagoons on the other, it’s a popular spot for sailing and snorkeling. Although the beaches and barrier reefs are a major draw, the geography is equally enticing further inland, where you can dive into an underground river or take a speedboat through a mangrove jungle.

Cancún pulls in millions of visitors each year, so escaping the crowds and the party atmosphere isn’t always easy, but a visit to Playa Delfines offers a chance for sunbathing in relative seclusion. Resorts have yet to encroach upon this stretch of sand, and it’s especially popular with surfers.

The stone columns of El Rey Ruins, an ancient Mayan site dating back to the second and third centuries BCE, lie within the city’s Hotel Zone. Believed to be a royal burial ground, the archaeological site is also home to wild iguanas that lounge in the sun. For a Mayan-themed day trip, take a 1.5-hour drive from Cancún down the coast to Tulum, a pre-Columbian walled city located on a bluff overlooking the sea—one of the Yucatán Peninsula’s most visited Mayan ruins. The Mayan city of Chichén Itzá, chosen as one of the New Seven Wonders of the World in 2007, is only a 2.5-hour drive from Cancún.

The Gala of the Royal Horses

Dressed in flowing red, a flamenco dancer steps in perfect counterpoint to her partner. While this is already a feat of grace, the dancer has an additional challenge: her partner has four feet. The towering andalusian steed, known as the royal horse for its coveted status among European monarchs and the fact that it only sleeps in a castle, steps in perfect rhythm, joining a cast of 13 other friesian, arab, and lipizzaner stallions making their American debut. In addition to flamenco, the horses perform the classical dressage forms known as “airs above the ground,” developed to train mounts for battle. Other gala events include a mounted bullfighter showing off his spear-wielding skills and a stately quadrille danced by a mounted party of tuxedoed gentlemen and gowned ladies.

I Love The 90’s Tour

  • Vanilla Ice: Millions stopped, collaborated, and listened as Rob Van Winkle made “Ice Ice Baby” the first hip-hop single to top the Billboard charts. Fresh off his appearance as Mark Twain in Adam Sandler’s The Ridiculous 6, Ice is back with a new invention: an upcoming album.

  • Salt-N-Pepa: Decades after “Push It” made them the first all-female rap group to go platinum, Cheryl James (“Salt”), Sandra Denton (“Pepa”), and Deidra “DJ Spinderella” Roper still know how to dominate a crowd. Today they keep making audiences wanna “Shoop” and are ready to tackle their next project: a show on the Cooking Channel.

  • Color Me Badd: Millions felt a tick-tock to the heart when this R&B quartet (now a trio, but still as Badd as they wanna be) dropped their 1991 mega-hit, “I Wanna Sex You Up.”

  • Also appearing: Coolio | Tone Loc | Young MC

Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey: Legends

Impossible Animals
Unlike any other circus you’ve ever seen, Legends’ mythical menagerie unveils live unicorns, a massive, time-displaced wooly mammoth, and a pegasus.

Impossible Humans
The Tuniziani Troupe of acrobats attempts four consecutive triple somersaults every show. Not to be outdone, the eight members of the Torres family motorcycle around a 16-foot steel globe at speeds of 65 miles per hour without ever colliding.

Impossible Humans and Animals
The Cossack Riders of the Wind are such peerless horsemen that they can climb behind and under their mount, even as it gallops about the ring at speeds of more than 25 miles per hour. British big-cat trainer Alexander Lacey–dubbed “Best of the Best” at the Circus Festival in Monte Carlo—proves that lions and tigers are capable of astounding feats, like understanding English.

And… You!!!
Children who show up one hour before the show are invited to step inside the ring to learn acrobatic skills and juggling, get an autograph from the stars, and possibly win a painting by one of the elephants in the show. They can also see the elephants up close at the Animal Open House (available only in select markets).

Harlem Globetrotters

This season, the Globetrotters will celebrate their 91st anniversary the only way they know how: with a jaw-dropping blend of athletic precision and razzle-dazzle showmanship that has entertained hundreds of millions of fans over the past nine decades. Throughout the team’s lengthy tour, a rotating roster of Globetrotter favorites—including a pair of female players—will take to the hardwood each game. Spectators might spot veteran guard TNT sharing a behind-the-back pass with dunker Thunder, who also holds the world record for longest basketball shot at 109 feet and 9 inches.

Each game gives the Globetrotters’ jovial jocks a chance to extend their decades-long dominance, all while new generations of fans laugh along and witness classic routines of unconventional passing and sudden transmutations of water into confetti.

Second City 2015 Comedy Tour – Fully Loaded

Second City, Chicago’s beloved comedy institution, has been introducing the world to influential comic talent for over 50 years. Early graduates of the school include Bill Murray, Mike Myers, and Gilda Radner, while the following generation debuted future comic royalty such as Tina Fey, Stephen Colbert, and Amy Poehler. And with each new class of graduates, the comedy world gets even stronger.

In its latest venture, Fully Loaded, SC’s current squad of performers celebrates this legacy by dusting off some of the company’s greatest hits, including sketches and songs. Of course, there’s still plenty of room for improvised tomfoolery. Using everything from their stock of unforgettable characters to that morning’s headlines, the performers weave comic tapestries out of the audience’s suggestions, in addition to the prepared material.
